On Saturday, August 31st, at approximately 12:28 a.m., police conducted a motor vehicle stop on U.S. Highway Route 130 South. The vehicle, a 2006 Jeep Wrangler, was stopped for a speeding violation. Investigation on scene revealed that the operator of the vehicle, Erik W. Monsees, 25 years old of Burlington, had consumed some amount of alcoholic beverages prior to driving. After failing to satisfactorily perform a series of field sobriety tests, Monsees was taken into police custody for driving while intoxicated. At police headquarters, Monsees was charged with DWI, Reckless Driving, Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane and Failure to Exhibit Registration. After the completion of his arrest processing, Monsees was released to a family member pending a court appearance, without incident.
