Information About Natural Gas Odor In Township – 9/24/13

At 1:51 p.m. today, emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of the Mansfield Square shopping center/professional offices for the odor of natural gas in the area. Upon arriving on scene, the odor of natural gas was present, but it was learned that the cause was PSE&G’s venting of a large gas main near the NJ Turnpike. There was no danger to the community from this venting and the smell has dissipated. Residents should always report the odor of natural gas to allow the source to be investigated and confirmed by emergency services and the utility, especially when the odor is detected indoors.
