On Monday, July 29th at approximately 11:10 a.m., police observed two juvenile subjects driving All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) east on Columbus Road (County Route 543) near Petticoat Bridge Road, heading towards Columbus. The juveniles were driving on the roadway and one of them was not wearing a helmet. When the officer attempted to stop the juveniles, they turned onto Mill Lane, ignoring his emergency lights and siren, and fled the area at a high rate of speed. In their attempt to elude police, the juveniles drove recklessly and caused significant risk of death or serious injury to themselves and other motorists in the area. After investigating the incident, police identified the involved juveniles, both age 14, and arrested them at a residence in the Township. One of the subjects resides in Mansfield Township and the other in Springfield Township. Both juveniles were charged with eluding, and both were issued traffic summonses for driving without a license, operating an unregistered vehicle, driving a vehicle without insurance, and reckless driving. After processing, both juveniles were released to the custody of their parents, pending court.
