On Thursday, March 6th, two 2011 burglary investigations were closed with charges being filed against Daniel L. Ortiz, 33 years old of Collingswood. The first case occurred on July 20th, 2011 when a watchful neighbor noticed a Hispanic male attempting to break into a residence on Locust Avenue in Columbus proper. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival, but the witness was able to provide key information that aided the investigation. The second case involved a residential burglary to a home on Jacksonville Road on September 15th, 2011. In that case, the suspect entered through a bedroom window and stole several pieces of jewelry.
One count of Criminal Attempt was filed for the July 20th attempted burglary. Additional charges for Burglary and Theft were also issued in connection with the September 15th incident. The outcome of this case was made possible by efforts of our Criminal Investigations Unit and cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.
