After having several unconfirmed reports of bear sightings in the township in the past few days, we now have a verified report of a black bear that was spotted by police a short time ago in the area of Route 206 and Route 68.
We have previously provided information on what precautions, if any, you should take if you encounter a bear. This latest sighting is one of several over the past two years. Since Mansfield has turned into “Bear Country”, the community needs to exercise common sense and give these animals a wide berth.
