At 6:57 pm on Saturday, November, 15th, a black male, later identified as Keith Downs of Edgewater Park, NJ, approached the gas attendant at the Gulf Gas Station, located at 3146 Route 206 and asked the attendant for assistance with his alleged disabled motor vehicle. During the attendant’s attempt to aid Downs, Downs physically assaulted and stole cash from the attendant before fleeing in a dark colored Pontiac onto Route 206 North. Shortly after the incident, the suspect vehicle was located by Bordentown Township Police, and the suspect led police on a pursuit that ended in a motor vehicle crash on Route 130 at Kinkora Road. After the crash, the suspect fled the scene on foot, but he was later apprehended after physically resisting the efforts of police to place him in custody.
The driver of the other motor vehicle that was struck by the Pontiac refused medical treatment. Downs was transported to Virtua Hospital in Mt. Holly, where he was treated and released for his injuries. Downs is charged with Robbery, Assault, Theft, Eluding Police, Obstruction and Resisting Arrest. Downs was lodged at the Burlington County Jail in lieu of his $75,000 cash bail.
